00:00:04
children from deportation I heard of the
vote White House press secretary Sarah
00:00:09
Sanders spoke to reporters about why the
president had been relatively quiet during
00:00:13
the shutdown he is focused on managing the
shutdown that's the biggest part of the
00:00:18
process that he plays at this point one
is encouraging members to do the right
00:00:22
thing and reopen our government the other
part is to manage the pieces that's his
00:00:27
job as the president of the United
States president down Trump had accused
00:00:31
Democrats of putting the interests of
non-citizens ahead of the American people
00:00:36
Turkey's president on Monday defended the
offensive on Afrin code name Operation
00:00:41
olive branch which is
aimed at ousting u.s.
00:00:43
Backed Kurdish militia from the
area. Resident said the Afghan
00:00:50
would be settled and that was discussed
with and an agreement reached with Russia
00:00:56
the operation is heightening tensions in
an already complicated Syrian conflict and
00:01:01
threatening to further strain times between
United States and Turkey to NATO ionize
00:01:08
the European Union imposed travel bans and
asset freezes on North Koreans accused
00:01:12
of helping poor young evade United Nations
sanctions linked to the country's
00:01:16
nuclear and ballistic missile tests it's
the latest round of sanctions on North
00:01:20
Korea that have reduced
trade with Pyongyang to
00:01:22
a trickle and in the attempt to show
solidarity with major trading partners South

00:01:33
News. Monday the European Union's
foreign policy chief Federica mogul
00:01:39
Renie's stated that the u.s.
00:01:41
Administration's recognition of
Jerusalem as Israel's capital was
00:01:45
a problem she said the only pragmatic
realistic solution for Jerusalem was for it
00:01:51
to be the capital of 2 states mean we'll
continue to work feel support and
00:01:56
international framework feel to accompany
that if member stations we've been
00:02:01
engaged with I want American fence till
the point that you know that's the part
00:02:06
that envoy meeting has taken place in
the last days I mean I think this is
00:02:12
a very positive sign while
visiting Israel u.s.
00:02:15
Vice president Mike Pence said that the
United States would move its embassy in
00:02:19
Israel to Jerusalem by the end of 2019.
The Afghan government forces ended an
00:02:25
overnight siege Sunday Kabul's Intercontinental
Hotel that resulted in at least 43
00:02:31
deaths and multiple injuries Grace Lee has
that story the battle lasted through the
00:02:36
night as Special Forces traded shots with
gunmen in army uniforms with stormed the
00:02:41

of the attackers were killed more than
00:02:56
$150.00 guests were able to escape as
parts of the building caught fire early
00:03:01
Sunday from climbing down from the upper
level with tight sheets It's the latest in
00:03:06
a series of attacks on the Afghan capital
aimed at undermining the confidence in
00:03:10
the western backed government
that was Greece Lee reporting and
00:03:14
a statement from the Interior Ministry
has blamed the Hakani Network
00:03:18
a group affiliated with the Taliban former
New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson met
00:03:23
Monday with me m
00:03:24
r leader Aung San Suu Kyi to discuss
the potential return of ring of Muslim
00:03:28
refugees chased out of me Amar by the
military and what the United Nations has
00:03:33
called textbook ethnic cleansing
riches Instead he'll also press me
00:03:37
a March to release to detain journalists
who have been covering the crisis it's not
00:03:41
immediately clear what if anything was
decided during the meeting. Pope Francis
00:03:47
apologized Sunday for insisting that
victims of paedophile pre-show prove to be
00:03:51
believed saying he realized it was
00:03:54
a slap in the face to victims that was
never intended but he doubled down in
00:03:58
defending
00:03:59
a Chilean base ship bishop accused by
victims of covering up the country's most
00:04:04
notorious pedophile priest and he repeated
that everyone who makes such accusations

00:05:06
a stable and peaceful nation and then the
next witness saw it can ruin policy in
00:05:11
place that's the voice of Liberia's man
who for years Liberia's new president
00:05:16
George Weah to focus on maintaining stability
and building the economy more details
00:05:21
on the story coming up also at least 6
people died when police in the d.r.
00:05:26
City fired on protesters yesterday

00:05:34
a Nile River Dam It is building we'll

00:05:39

00:05:46
The top story before
00:05:47
a packed stadium George Weah took the
oath of office today as Liberia's new
00:05:52
president he replaces Ellen Johnson Sirleaf
who served for 12 years as the nation
00:05:57
began to heal from years of civil war the
ceremony marks the country's 1st peaceful
00:06:03
transfer of power between democratically
elected leaders in more than 70 years we
00:06:08
an international football star won 61
percent of the vote and the runoff election
00:06:14
in late December journalist Moses Karzai
whoa spoke with some Liberians ahead of
00:06:19
today's inauguration ceremony this woman
calls for the new president to look after
00:06:24
the interest of women there are
00:06:26
a lot of things that the president should
aim to of be can do for the women in
00:06:32
Griswold's Liberia George why. We are
President elect and soon to be President
00:06:39
for her retires the issue of to my kids
rules because women who are areas they
00:06:46
depend on to produce from their farm to
00:06:49
a feature film this but uniform for their
children and Book Fair and so forth. And
00:06:56
this man urges him to focus on maintaining
stability and building the economy our
00:07:02
1st and bustle we had needs to consolidate
that parents 1st. Peaceful nation and
00:07:08
then the next. General policy in place as
you can see now on to the rate increase
00:07:15
and lives I mean. Economic
policy for employees to
00:07:22
transform the loss of appearance Liberia
is one of the world's poorest countries
00:07:27
despite some gains made during the Sirleaf
years many Liberians hope that we can
00:07:32
build on the stability established during
her administration to bring greater
00:07:36
prosperity.
00:07:46
At least 6 people died when police in the
Democratic Republic of Congo fired on
00:07:51
protesters yesterday the United Nations
peacekeeping force says more than 50 were
00:07:56
injured when police tried to break up
protests in Kinshasa and other towns the
00:08:02
Catholic church organized the demonstrations
to protest against President Joseph
00:08:06
Kabila as
00:08:07
a road has been in office 17 years his
term was to have ended in 2016 but
00:08:14
his government has yet to organize elections
organizational problems the violence
00:08:20
Sunday prompted part Pope Francis to call
on the thirty's and all citizens to avoid
00:08:26
all forms of violence and 6
solutions for the common good.
00:08:37
Zimbabwe is on high alert
following reports of
00:08:40
a cholera outbreak that has
claimed 5 lives this comes at
00:08:44
a time where one of the county's
neighbors Zambia has been fighting
00:08:47
a severe outbreak that has caused more
than 70 deaths reported. Reports.
00:08:55
Zimbabwe's minister of health and child
care Dr David pairing up to explain to the
00:09:00
outbreak
00:09:01
a cholera outbreak has been reported in
children to municipalities in motion and
00:09:07
western province and this was on the
18th. General in this year to date.
00:09:17
32 cases 30 suspected
and 2. Confirmed cases
00:09:24
and 4 deaths reported Unicef the World
Health Organization and other humanitarian
00:09:30
organizations have come in with significant
resources to support the government as
00:09:36
it addresses the outbreak. That will say
is the origins of the outbreak are being
00:09:41
investigated we think that the index case
when you see it in this case in the 1st
00:09:47
case was an 80 year old female who succumbed
to the she says it home on the 8th of
00:09:53
January this year subsequently people what
did this you know and other substances
00:10:00
you know slim to the initial case and
people fill in and started presenting for
00:10:06
treatment at the hospital the minister
say divide us steps have been taken to
00:10:11
ensure that doesn't spread part of this
is treatment cans in vulnerable areas as
00:10:17
well as supervise the burials for the
victims part and that will say is
00:10:22
a total of 34 people have been affected he
ses municipalities need to address that
00:10:28
creates a very important decisions for
outbreaks Chicoutimi disability is
00:10:34
a critical shortage of water due to aging
What are the ticklish infrastructure like
00:10:39
most towns above and this needs to be
addressed and this to be addressed
00:10:45
aggressively the reason rampant venting
in and disconnected places in communities
00:10:51
selling of reeds and foods on pavements.
People buy into it all these on the
00:10:57
streets in Nigeria conditions. Is edging
people to practice careful hygiene
00:11:04
such as washing hands before eating or after
using the toilets and refraining from
00:11:10
shaking hands when quitting
it's either for v.o.a.
00:11:13
This is called there is now
I say from her out here.
00:11:21
Is rejecting a call from Egypt for World
Bank arbitration and their dispute over
00:11:26
a Nile River dam that I decided to buy is
building Cairo is concerned the dam will
00:11:31
reduce water flows on the
night and damage it's
00:11:34
a great culture but the Ethiopian government
says the hydro power dam is crucial to
00:11:40
providing an electricity to millions of
its people officials in ad the suburb of
00:11:44
say it will not harm water flows down the
river after his visit to Cairo last week
00:11:50
Ethiopian prime minister Haile Mariam
deciding Saturday rejected Egypt's proposal
00:11:56
for a World Bank all the
grand Ethiopian it had
00:12:00
a stance dumb will more than double Ethiopia's
electricity output it to ski to the
00:12:06
government's plan to quadruple power
production to wreak millions of people now
00:12:11
without electricity.
00:12:19
Now in Africa a u.s.
00:12:20
Government initiative to double access
to electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa has
00:12:25
launched
00:12:25
a guide to community engagement for power
projects in Kenya that guide outlines how
00:12:31
electricity producers can best engage
with consumers from Nairobi Ruben Schama
00:12:36
reports Kenya has
00:12:38
a dynamic private sector driven power
industry but community concerns of effect and
00:12:44
the completion of these projects are all
but go Dick is the Us ambassador to Kenya
00:12:49
there been been a development
delays over time as
00:12:52
a consequence of poor community engagement
and I think that this guy really does
00:12:58
take a major step forward it helps it's
going to help our developers create
00:13:02
a win win situation where power project
developers can in fact receive the
00:13:06
communities really understand what is
happening and really can get benefits so I
00:13:12
think that this died community engagement
for power projects in Kenya is
00:13:15
a big step for I just want to congratulate
everybody who's worked on it in
00:13:19
excellent resource I think for everybody
involved they guide provide successful
00:13:24
examples of infrastructure develop as
watching with the community and overcoming
00:13:29
hard to lose and avoiding peak falls at
each stage of the project Kevin Dole
00:13:34
a senior advisor to Power Africa
initiative explains the most basic type of
00:13:40
communication is when you inform the
community of what we're doing Ok We're going
00:13:44
to build this here this road this railway
this power plant so for the 2nd next
00:13:50
level is consult with them so we're going
to build this here what do you guys think
00:13:54
about it the 3rd part is involved so we're
going to build this what do you think
00:13:59
about it what can you contribute towards
us planning this and thinking this through
00:14:04
developed with input from local communities
government agencies private sector
00:14:09
developers financial institutions and
Kenyan and international. Civil society
00:14:14
organizations the guide is tailored to
reflect country specific clothes customs and
00:14:20
institutions that developers in Kenya
must not be gate is Kenya's principal
00:14:26
secretary of the Ministry of Energy and
petroleum he says since 2013 the number of
00:14:32
Kenyans have access to electricity
has grown exponentially.
00:14:40
In the us and. They have been.
00:14:48
In just 5 years we have. Connected.
00:14:55
We will continue to private
sector to deliver for our people.
00:15:02
In Kenya the Power Africa initiative
is coordinated by the u.s.
00:15:07
Agency for International Development you
is launched by former President Barack
00:15:13
Obama in 2013 we've an initial
investment of $7000000000.00 u.s.
00:15:18
Dollars The program aims to install 10000
megawatts of new generation capacity
00:15:24
connect 20000000 new customers and
improve electricity reliability across
00:15:29
sub-Saharan Africa initially Power Africa
focused on 6 countries Ethiopia Ghana
00:15:36
Kenya Liberia Nigeria and
Tanzania according to the u.s.
00:15:40
Officials they need aims truck truck
private capital into energy projects in
00:15:46
a region where foreign investors often shy
away due to regulatory obstacles and the
00:15:52
reste Dole Ses most of the e.c.
00:15:55
Use our land related.
Subject according to USA
00:16:02
id figures they need as attracted
more than $52000000000.00 u.s.
00:16:06
Dollars in additional commitments including
$40000000000.00 from private investors
00:16:13
. You know they don't local
00:16:20
trade finance company is providing short
term financing for entrepreneurs in Africa
00:16:25
who can't get money elsewhere to cover
the cost of purchasing goods countable
00:16:29
a multinational technology and
00:16:32
a trading company headquartered in San
Francisco California has offices and more
00:16:37
riches kick Oliver Wanda Grand Cayman and
will soon open an office in Nairobi Kenya
00:16:43
Chris Hale is c.e.o.
00:16:44
Of accountable he spoke with me about how
his company is helping entrepreneurs in
00:16:49
Africa make their dreams
come true. Council is
00:16:52
a global trade platform and we offer
00:16:54
a unique type of financing for entrepreneurs
who are importing or we buy goods on
00:16:59
their behalf and help them execute on
international trade deals what are the
00:17:04
qualifications for getting financing
especially if an entrepreneur has been turned
00:17:10
down by
00:17:10
a bank we look at the trade transactions
very differently that we're not really
00:17:15
assessing the credit worthiness of the
actual we're looking at the quality of their
00:17:19
end customer the quality of their supplier
and their leader to execute on the
00:17:24
transaction so we're able to look at the
problem very differently than banks and
00:17:28
assess those qualifications based on how
well the deal will go and how likely we
00:17:32
think it is to execute what
would be an example we do
00:17:36
a lot of work in and so an entrepreneur
wins a contract to build a data center for
00:17:42
a bank as an example and they need to buy
all the components of the datacenter like
00:17:46
you know switches and cable ing and so
forth and the bank wants it to be 1st
00:17:51
quality top tier like Cisco as an example
and so the entrepreneur has difficulty
00:17:56
getting that financed because
00:17:57
a large deal big companies like
Cisco are going to ship to
00:18:01
a small business without getting paid and
the bank won't pay until the project is
00:18:05
complete and so there's quite
00:18:06
a lot of friction that 3 party transaction
but we understand it and can help make
00:18:11
it run smoothly and how are you able to
help finance these types of businesses so
00:18:17
over the course of our lifetimes the company
the answer to that question was very
00:18:22
but as of January last year we secured
00:18:26
a $150000000.00 line of credit from the
lesson here in the United States and so we
00:18:31
use that capital to fund these projects
when you're looking at entrepreneurs in
00:18:37
Africa what are some of their biggest
challenges I think the biggest challenge
00:18:42
these entrepreneurs in Africa
face is anonymity people have
00:18:44
a lot of assumptions about businesses like
in Africa and frankly those assumptions
00:18:49
are often underdeveloped
and the. Reporters have
00:18:52
a. Way to demonstrate
their identity both as
00:18:56
a safe counterparty to work with and as
00:18:58
a good business partner to engage with and
so our platform manages their identity
00:19:03
and assesses their readiness for this
project can you give us an example of
00:19:07
a 6 that story from your experiences in
working with African entrepreneurs sure one
00:19:13
of my favorite recent success
stories is we were contracted with
00:19:17
a small entrepreneur that we worked with
5 different occasions now to procure
00:19:23
almost a $1000000.00 worth
of malarial test kits from
00:19:27
a subsidiary of Abbott that program is
facilitated by the World Health Organization
00:19:32
so one would think that a project of
this magnitude importance would work
00:19:37
a little bit better than it does but
even these really critical development
00:19:41
projects face this problem
and it really gives us
00:19:45
a lot of pride to be able to make those
kinds of projects work better. That was
00:19:49
Chris Hale c.e.o.
00:19:50
Of the global technology and trading company
countable he spoke with me from San
00:19:55
Francisco California.

raised we were aiming to raise about
00:22:00
a $1000000.00 and we raised
about 80 $5000.00 which was
00:22:04
a bit disappointing we were really hoping
to raise more money even if they do
00:22:08
conservation it's hope they
will eventually raise. Creating

Children's Fund warns that millions of
Iraqi children are affected by conflict in
00:23:32
poverty face
00:23:33
a grim future and are in desperate need of
international support reports from. The
00:23:40
you were in Children's Fund says that in
Iraq more than 4000000 children about one
00:23:45
quarter of all Iraqi children live in
poverty. Most of these children it says are
00:23:51
scarred by years of conflict and deprivation
the government has made great strides
00:23:56
in bringing the fighting to an end in several
areas of the country but Unicef notes
00:24:02
children continue to suffer from ongoing
violence lack of education and basic care
00:24:08
the city of Mosul is
00:24:09
a notable example although Iraqi government
forces have succeeded in driving the
00:24:15
militant Islamic state group out of western
Mosul Unicef says the after effects
00:24:21
from this conflict linger
on and continue to have
00:24:24
a detrimental impact on children Unicef
representative in Iraq Peter Hawkins says
00:24:30
about 1000000 children have
fled Mosul speaking on
00:24:33
a line from the capital
Baghdad he tells v.o.a.
00:24:37
The many children who remain in the city
face multiple risks they get to keep
00:24:43
children. Hopeful and question agree
that exposure which are being created
00:24:49
everywhere you know
00:24:51
a perennial problem one would never ever
fully go away because you should know
00:24:58
about it. But. The pockets of
Unicef reports poverty and
00:25:05
conflict have interrupted the education
for 3000000 children across Iraq he says
00:25:11
some have never been inside a classroom a
situation that is likely to rob them of
00:25:16
a meaningful future the children's agency
is calling on the international community
00:25:22
to provide immediate and long term investments
in education it says this will pay
00:25:27
huge dividends in creating a brighter
more stable Iraq the slide for v.o.a.

00:25:41
Senate today thought it for a temporary
spending plans of all the open
00:25:45
a federal government after
00:25:47
a partial 3 day shutdown. The Senate has
approved legislation to keep federal
00:25:51
agencies open through February 8th after
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell
00:25:56
assured opposition Democratic lawmakers
that he would in the coming weeks allow
00:26:01
a vote on protecting about 800000 young
illegal immigrants from deportation the
00:26:07
Democrats had demanded from assurances that
the chamber would consider the fate of
00:26:12
the immigrants who were
brought into the u.s.
00:26:14
Years ago by their parents before
agreeing to and the legislative standoff
00:26:19
Democratic leader Charles Schumer said
McConnell assured him if the immigration
00:26:24
issue was not resolved by February 8th
the Senate what he mediately consider it
00:26:28
right after that date the legislation to
end the shutdown would still be approved
00:26:33
by the House of Representatives but that
is considered virtually certain before the
00:26:38
measure was sent to President
Donald Trump for his signature.

Bullets right here on
The Voice of America.
00:30:33
It's time to climb between the ropes
once again with our reigning prince the
00:30:38
pugilistic nom de Hollywood Mo
wait Happy New Year nom de And
00:30:45
a Happy New Year to you son and
00:30:46
a happy ones at. The 27 team was an action
00:30:53
packed year in boxing we'll look back to
some of the award winning fighters and
00:30:59
award winning fights in 2017 but
1st let's look ahead to 2018
00:31:06
and the big boys the heavyweights Tyson
Fury the Gypsy King former world
00:31:13
heavyweight champion it looks like he
might be getting back in the ring tell us
00:31:18
about that Nandi we're really excited about
Tyson fear of the gypsy king because no
00:31:23
matter what you say about him he breaks
excitement. In front of the British boxing
00:31:28
but of control in January which
means that one's the name of
00:31:33
a license him it sounds. Very good chance
of coming back in the ring because he
00:31:38
brings people into the arena and
he talks of the fight so he's
00:31:43
a man that we need in the division Tyson
Fury has struggled with substance abuse
00:31:49
issues nom de is
00:31:51
a clean well it depends on what you mean
by is he claimed he would have to go to
00:31:56
more tests and the British boxing but of
control will have to draw the line and say
00:32:02
hey we must check you maybe every month
every week right now and sunny He's like
00:32:08
a $300.00 pound whale you know.
He needs to drop at least
00:32:12
a good 100 pounds to really start thinking
about getting into the ring because the
00:32:17
way he looks now he looks more like
00:32:18
a sumo wrestler you know. He
likes to take bro. Every way
00:32:25
to remember that. Anthony Joshua well he
holds several world title belts nom de
00:32:33
What does he have coming up in 2018
00:32:36
a very very important fight for and 2 New
Jersey shore he said unification fight
00:32:40
against Joseph Parker of New
Zealand Gustaf Buckeyes a w b
00:32:45
o heavyweight champion of the water they've
been trying to break bread and they've
00:32:50
been going back and forth with displayed
Joseph Packer ones 40 percent of the gate
00:32:55
and the paper view numbers but he's not
00:32:58
a draws so they've been trying so they're
very close we expect and I mounted maint
00:33:04
right after the holidays looking
at my print in the u.k.
00:33:09
Unification fight you just have parka
against Antonin Josh Rafferty w b
00:33:14
o title Nandi do you give Joseph
Parker any chance against a.j.
00:33:20
I've been watching him and he's Ok he's not
in the same league with Anthony Joshua
00:33:25
he would stand and fight and when you stand
in front of homeboy he will take you
00:33:29
out decides to run that's
00:33:31
a different thing until you just will have
to cut the ring but I bet you one thing
00:33:35
. Going to be an exciting fight and
somebody will go down Joseph Parker the w b
00:33:40
o heavyweight champion the w.b.c.
00:33:44
Heavyweight champion is Dion Tay wilder
of the United States what does he have
00:33:49
coming up in 2018. Sunny in the month of
February the young will take on Louise
00:33:56
Ortiz from. Remember losers he's got busted
for steroids so this is being cleared
00:34:02
now the fight is going to happen in New
York City but really I don't really puts
00:34:09
Luisa T.'s in that category of
the number one contender of
00:34:13
a good fight it will be one of these easy
blowout fight for the until wild and
00:34:17
after that he was so out the bomb squad you
know and then challenge Anthony Georgia
00:34:22
it's going to be
00:34:22
a no fight Lewis ots will be knocked out
by the un to wild and that will prove not
00:34:27
into boxing fans in America vote. What
about Dion Tay Wilder Anthony Joshua
00:34:34
nom de do you see that maybe late in 2018
I keep telling people and tuna just to I
00:34:40
don't need to be on to wild young to while
I'm going to draw in America and to New
00:34:46
Jersey you had
00:34:47
a big fish to fry I would rise inferi and
even David Haye this I find that will
00:34:53
feel the stadium ties inferi
against Anthony just to
00:34:56
a small market table then you
want to while the game's a.j.
00:35:00
This fight with wild I would have to happen
was say 2019 spring and people think
00:35:06
I'm crazy for saying that because. He's
not there the numbers are not there this
00:35:12
cat in America is not
00:35:14
a pay per view draw he cannot feel arenas
you know and you need 2 to tango you know
00:35:18
and and to me just I don't really need to
come to America to make money he can do
00:35:23
90 Tauzin in the u.k. He can do big paper
view numbers you bring him to the u.s.
00:35:29
17000 arena fight in
00:35:31
a guy he can destroy Now we need to wait
for this fight. Like we say in the fight
00:35:36
game Matty name. Nom de you talk
about big pay per view numbers
00:35:43
one of the biggest fights of 2017 in terms
of pay per view numbers we've been doing
00:35:50
this for 21 years I told you guys all
come straight so you know what coming
00:35:55
straight I was going to take some contact
I could have sat back and just boxed and
00:36:01
counterpunched and made it born I don't
want to do that I feel like a lot of fans
00:36:05
a last hurrah so I went out there they
might be communicating before we went out
00:36:11
there I don't game plan was to go out there
and let him shoot heavy shots from the
00:36:14
beginning taking down the stretch and do
we do best and that's what we did tonight
00:36:19
that's Floyd Mayweather speaking after his
10th round technical knockout victory
00:36:25
over Connor McGregor in Las Vegas
Nevada the final figures are in Tel
00:36:32
r.v.o.
00:36:32
Way boxing fans the details his
$4300000.00 Pay Per View buy in not
00:36:39
America which means the fight pulled in
more than $600000000.00 that he. And you
00:36:45
know who has the record for the biggest
beep of you numbers go back and eighties
00:36:50
fried me with
00:36:51
a Games money 520154 point 6000000 break
it down Nandi How much did each fighter
00:36:58
get from that Meg about don't forget now
fry me when I was just not only to find
00:37:04
out he was also the promoter so he
got his up friends and the back
00:37:11
end fried me what I walked away
with more than $350000000.00.
00:37:18
And a kind of McGregor I'm
00:37:20
a $100000000.00 Now with such money from
that fight nom de Witt Conor McGregor go
00:37:27
back to m.m.a.
00:37:28
Or maybe try his luck again in the boxing
ring we don't even know if he's going to
00:37:33
fight again because he's still
busy counting 100. If you have
00:37:37
a $100000000.00 in that bank who you
want anybody to touch you know.
00:37:44
Nom de another big fight in 2017
Sol Canelo Alvarez from Mexico
00:37:51
he fought to a draw against Get
Noddy go aloft in triple g.
00:37:56
Will there be Canelo triple g 2 in
2018 Sunday to date is almost said
00:38:03
no we're looking at this
happen in May 15th at t.
00:38:06
Mobile arena the question becomes will the
2nd fight sellout like the force fight
00:38:12
you know well remember it is
00:38:15
a very important weekend for Mexican boxing
fans Cinco de Mayo and they come out in
00:38:20
large numbers they are in I would sell out
00:38:23
a lot of fight friends believe kind
of the last the last fight and
00:38:27
a lot of fight fans believe that Judge
stole the fight from triple G.'s So who is
00:38:32
come out and see if the Mexican Aria will
take out triple do you see the Mexican
00:38:38
warrior Canelo making adjustments in the
rematch Sonny has no choice he must
00:38:45
make I just meant he must length
how to cut of the ring he's
00:38:48
a warrior we've seen him fight he must
take it to be put in the body stay in the
00:38:53
body to run your company but destroy the
lazy jab and try to look pretty steady had
00:38:58
a warrior we've seen you fight
take it to 3 Puji he stands
00:39:02
a chance of even stopping Tripodi Like
I've said in the past we were very
00:39:05
disappointed in the last fight I said Mexican
if he comes out on runs like you did
00:39:10
a lot of fight his friend bays would never
forgave him so we must see action come
00:39:14
May 5th with Canelo and triple to nom
de also in 2017 the Australian fighter
00:39:21
Jeff Horne captured the w.b.
00:39:25
Oh well to wait title belt with
00:39:27
a controversial victory over Manny
Pacquiao what's next for Horn in 2018
00:39:34
when you can add that. The robbery of 2017
because Jeff Han did not win that fight
00:39:40
he just admitted the defense of his title
in Australia I pulled big numbers but now
00:39:45
he has amended 3 against Terrence Crawford
Crawford knocked out some don't go in
00:39:50
the blue machine and Jeff Hahn is saying
he needs $4000000.00 before he can step
00:39:56
into the ring with Terrence Crawford do
you see the promoters giving more of that
00:40:00
kind of money Nandi No he's not even
what a $1000000.00 Any comment would get
00:40:05
a look at numbers when we only talk
fights you know turns Crawford is
00:40:09
a great fighter but he's not a pay per
view fight. You can watch him on e.s.p.n.
00:40:14
For free cable China but when you pay
$4050.00 the open $70.00 to see him
00:40:21
fight knowing he's not
00:40:23
a superstar you know we're going to find
it for me down dollars to give Jeff on
00:40:27
busy clearly what he's doing is trying to
cash is trying to say I'm not ready to
00:40:31
fight out I want to fight he's talking about
fighting 20 Mundine from Australia for
00:40:36
2000000 dollars Sonny So basically they
would have to take his belt away from him
00:40:40
and would Terrence Crawford then fight
another boxer for that belt Well w.b.
00:40:46
All would then go into the King and sit in
ness of illiberal fighter and they would
00:40:51
fight for the Vic and award title in the
meantime Jeff Han will try to see if he
00:40:55
can get to in London for $2000000.00 We
believe Jeff Han has got lucky nights truly
00:41:01
out and if he steps into the ring with
Terrence Crawford he would be distraught.
00:41:07
V.o.a.
00:41:07
Sonny young you're listening to the sunny
side of sports on the Voice of America
00:41:12
I'm talking with Nom de Mo way to our
reigning prince of pugilist sticks about
00:41:18
boxing in 2018 we're also looking back
to some of the top fights from 2017
00:41:25
let's move to the African fighters
in 2018 Nandi and begin with
00:41:31
a guy named warrior Richard Komi What does
he have lined up for the new year was
00:41:37
the best move Richard Kogan made was
coming to America aligning himself for
00:41:42
a promoter in Lou de Bella the fights that
Richard Komi lost in America if he had
00:41:48
a promoter behind him we know what we
call in the fight game insurance box
00:41:52
insurance though not have stolen the fight
from him with her but he still has now
00:41:58
said for the finally mean ation the we
know this fight must fight about Easter
00:42:02
according to the i.d.f.
00:42:04
He's going to take on legs and
Luna of Bellflower California with
00:42:08
a final elimination and check
this Luna is not. The Fighter is
00:42:13
a 22 and 0 with 15 big knockouts So this
fight may end up in San Antonio in Mexican
00:42:19
territory home by from
Accra Ghana but I bring is
00:42:22
a game for this elimination fight because
Luna is going to fight but the we know
00:42:27
this fight must fight the champion robot
is Tim another guy named warrior Isaac dog
00:42:33
Bo the sunny side
00:42:35
a sports prospect of the year for 2016
it looks like he could be maybe crowned
00:42:42
world champion nom de tell us about
that very important fight happening in
00:42:47
a crowd Ghana January 6th they call
it but all of the Gold Coast's.
00:42:55
Isaac Ro you know it's time to
go we'll take on say race for
00:42:59
a man he go for the vacant
interrogate wall the title of w
00:43:05
b or super Buttonwood title
and this will happen at
00:43:09
a book I read. In Ghana if you're in
00:43:13
a crowd gonna place to be January 6th I bet
you want to be in that area now because
00:43:18
going to be bombs away. And I'll be there
must be too dog Bo's advantage to be
00:43:24
fighting in front of friendly fans there
in Accra but don't count on the Mexicans
00:43:29
because the Mexican War is they will go
into your bedroom and take you out. In
00:43:35
front of your family your wife and brothers
and. This god they don't joke. That's
00:43:41
what I'm telling fight fans in general are
00:43:43
a 6th place to be will come out Gonna
but study Remember this past Yeah we
00:43:50
saw
00:43:50
a fight for the 1st time from Africa on
Facebook. Against become bank whom I
00:43:57
hope January 6th the fight would Dubbo and
says I Where as would be streamed live
00:44:03
for us on Facebook so we can see around the
globe big things happen in boxing and I
00:44:08
believe the promoters from Ghana would do
the same thing the promoters. With some
00:44:13
advice if I did the Facebook still with
African fighters Nandi What about the
00:44:17
Ugandan lion Sharif. Son had to lie on his
back you know he's healed now and then
00:44:24
the big money behind him with provide me
with the money you don't go wrong Sunny
00:44:29
you have your own Charan's you
have the money to back you up for
00:44:32
a title fight and no
judge or referee still
00:44:35
a fight from you because behind you
so. Sheriff Bulgaria will strike put
00:44:42
a lie to a title of the
wallet and I think it's
00:44:45
a big year for him he's healed now
he's back he's an exciting find I said
00:44:49
Television fighter he brings action he
brings power he brings knockout look for
00:44:53
28000 for home buy from Kampala to strike
Nandi It's time now for the sunny side of
00:44:59
sports boxing awards for 27 team but
1st some music from the Nigerian
00:45:06
Fela Kuti.
00:46:08
Let's begin with the sunny side of boards
knocking. Out of the year Sonny if you
00:46:14
remember last knockout of year was by an
African Julio's the Blue much Indian don't
00:46:20
go and he did it in 40 seconds but 2017 we
have Zola tape there of South Africa he
00:46:26
knocked out so. Going yeah off South
Africa and 11 seconds on believable
00:46:33
fast punch knockout brutal right hook Sonny
the fastest knockout ever you know in
00:46:40
a while title fight coming from Africa Nandi
what's next for Zola. So his allotted
00:46:46
to has
00:46:47
a big fight against all mine obviates
of February 10th. In London home by
00:46:54
from South Africa is making big noise
in boxing and I believe we will see him
00:46:58
making some good money zone I take that
from South Africa knockout of the year
00:47:04
let's move now nom de to the sunny side of
sports fight of the year for 2017 Sunny
00:47:11
we have
00:47:11
a drone here which is better is.
Go back to that fired from to come
00:47:18
out in Guyana That's my kind of reminds
me when I'm going to lies very guys in
00:47:23
a big I rate ice pack with 5 fans and
everybody's running with each bunch and the
00:47:27
fire lived up to expectation before this
fight between him. And become bankrupt it
00:47:32
was a lot of talk
00:47:33
a lot of hype and the whole city was everybody
was into it and if I had to back and
00:47:38
buy c.s.i. Me and knock down the book
on bankroll in the 7th round and it was
00:47:43
a great fight you had
00:47:44
a fight of the how can we forget 120 Joshua
against Klitschko side my god son I was
00:47:50
shaking in my boots with what went down
both fire both fighters went down both got
00:47:56
back up so I mean again I mean it was back
in 90000 people mad as if to have you
00:48:03
would buy told don't do tone epic. Going
home by get up from the front with I
00:48:10
was there was a heavyweight fight. You
know see this fight kind of fights in
00:48:14
a long time if I live up to spec Titian
megaprojects the Klitschko he came and he
00:48:21
fought any student because showed
the wall that he's not done was
00:48:24
a great fight Sonny Nandi earlier we
mentioned Isaac dog Bo the sunny side of
00:48:29
sports prospect of the year for 2016
who is the prospect of the year for
00:48:35
2017 so you have
00:48:37
a very good ones really and I'm really
excited about this cat you know I've been
00:48:42
watching him from the Olympics he's from
Nigeria and if it I jabbed out his 66 any
00:48:48
Solide he can punch 3 and 03 knockouts
what I like about his cat right
00:48:55
now and that he has a very good team
good promoter good manager Ronnie shield
00:49:01
a wall class trainer and
not only that he has
00:49:03
a rich head chef and he's one of the top
promoters in America and Shelly Finkel
00:49:08
chilling Finkle used to work with Iron
Mike Tyson So what we have here is
00:49:15
a young heavyweight from Nigeria been
moved into right and his fights been on
00:49:20
television so when we come back again
at the end of 2018 when we look at
00:49:28
what's going to happen to f a
00:49:29
a job I remember that name heavyweight with
power heavyweight that can punch don't
00:49:35

excitement to the Bucs
00:49:57
a class act Sania you can hear him talk
even if you look at him the way he carries
00:50:02
himself outside arena we don't have anybody
like that and not only that he still
00:50:07
has his roots in the model that
you know 2018 is going to be
00:50:11
a huge year. For him people said the flask
would cost he did not notice he did not
00:50:18
do that but don't forget that that fight
was the last minute fight he had to make
00:50:22
adjustments without fight 2018 full
heat with Joseph aka Tyson few
00:50:29
retraining himself. And then one must fight
because he said it's only $23.00 fights
00:50:34
and. Then the on to why I don't know d.
00:50:37
And don't want to get into what I would
have to see to improve himself in America
00:50:41
before we can demand that fight for the
man and the boxing today he's on to
00:50:48
Joshua.
00:50:58

Next an editorial reflecting the views
of the United States government in
00:54:44
announcing the national security
strategy for the United States under his
00:54:47
administration President Donald Trump
emphasized renewed American leadership and
00:54:52
renewed American strength that leadership
and strength will now be based on what he
00:54:57
calls principled realism we face rogue
regimes that threaten the United States and
00:55:02
our allies we face terrorist organizations
transnational criminal networks and
00:55:08
others who spread violence and evil around
that we also face rival powers Russia
00:55:14
and China that seek to challenge American
influence values and wealth we will
00:55:20
attempt to build a great partnership
with those and other countries but in
00:55:26
a manner that always protects our national
interest to succeed said President Trump
00:55:32
the United States must integrate every
dimension of our national strength and he
00:55:36
must compete with every instrument of our
national power the new strategy advances
00:55:41
for vital national interests the 1st is
the protection of the American people
00:55:46
homeland and way of life that means
securing America's border including by
00:55:50
constructing
00:55:51
a wall on the southern border and ending
chain migration in addition our strategy
00:55:56
calls for us to confront discredit and
defeat radical Islamic terrorism and
00:56:02
ideology and to prevent it from spreading
into the United States and we will
00:56:07
develop new ways to counter those who use
new domains such as cyber and social
00:56:13
media to attack our nation or threaten
our society the 2nd vital national
00:56:20
interest is promoting American prosperity
economic vitality growth and prosperity
00:56:25
are absolutely necessary for American power
and influence abroad President Trump
00:56:30
said that is why he is removing regulations
that stifle business championing tax
00:56:35
cuts promote. Being free and fair trade
policy and unleashing American energy the
00:56:40
3rd pillar of the strategy is preserving
peace through strength including by
00:56:45
rebuilding and modernizing America's
military we recognize Mr Trump said that
00:56:50
weakness is the surest path to conflict
and unrivaled power is the most certain
00:56:55
means of defense finally the United States
will seek to advance American influence
00:57:00
in the world by forging strong alliances
based on cooperation and reciprocity and
00:57:06
while not imposing America's way of life
on anyone by championing American values
00:57:11
without apology with every decision and
every action said President Trump the
00:57:16
United States is rebuilding our nation our
confidence and our standing in the world
00:57:21
. But it was an editorial reflecting the
views of the United States government.

president had been relatively quiet during

the shutdown he is focused on managing the

process that he plays at this point one
is encouraging members to do the right

thing and reopen our government the other
part is to manage the pieces that's his

you know slim to the initial case and
people fill in and started presenting for
00:10:06
treatment at the hospital the minister
say divide us steps have been taken to
00:10:11
ensure that doesn't spread part of this
is treatment cans in vulnerable areas as
00:10:17
well as supervise the burials for the
victims part and that will say is
00:10:22
a total of 34 people have been affected he
ses municipalities need to address that
00:10:28
creates a very important decisions for
outbreaks Chicoutimi disability is
00:10:34
a critical shortage of water due to aging
What are the ticklish infrastructure like
00:10:39
most towns above and this needs to be
addressed and this to be addressed
00:10:45
aggressively the reason rampant venting
in and disconnected places in communities
00:10:51
selling of reeds and foods on pavements.
People buy into it all these on the
00:10:57
streets in Nigeria conditions. Is edging
people to practice careful hygiene
00:11:04
such as washing hands before eating or after
using the toilets and refraining from
00:11:10

it's either for v.o.a.

This is called there is now
I say from her out here.
00:11:21
Is rejecting a call from Egypt for World
Bank arbitration and their dispute over
00:11:26
a Nile River dam that I decided to buy is
building Cairo is concerned the dam will
00:11:31
reduce water flows on the
night and damage it's
00:11:34
a great culture but the Ethiopian government
says the hydro power dam is crucial to
00:11:40
providing an electricity to millions of
its people officials in ad the suburb of
00:11:44

00:11:50
Ethiopian prime minister Haile Mariam
deciding Saturday rejected Egypt's proposal
00:11:56
for a World Bank all the
grand Ethiopian it had
00:12:00
a stance dumb will more than double Ethiopia's
electricity output it to ski to the
00:12:06
government's plan to quadruple power
production to wreak millions of people now
00:12:11
without electricity.
00:12:19
Now in Africa a u.s.
00:12:20
Government initiative to double access
to electricity in Sub-Saharan Africa has
00:12:25
launched
00:12:25
a guide to community engagement for power
projects in Kenya that guide outlines how
00:12:31
electricity producers can best engage
with consumers from Nairobi Ruben Schama
00:12:36
reports Kenya has
00:12:38
a dynamic private sector driven power
industry but community concerns of effect and
00:12:44
the completion of these projects are all
but go Dick is the Us ambassador to Kenya
00:12:49
there been been a development
delays over time as
00:12:52
a consequence of poor community engagement
and I think that this guy really does
00:12:58
take a major step forward it helps it's
going to help our developers create
00:13:02
a win win situation where power project
developers can in fact receive the
00:13:06
communities really understand what is
happening and really can get benefits so I
00:13:12
think that this died community engagement
for power projects in Kenya is
00:13:15
a big step for I just want to congratulate
everybody who's worked on it in
00:13:19
excellent resource I think for everybody
involved they guide provide successful
00:13:24
examples of infrastructure develop as
watching with the community and overcoming
00:13:29
hard to lose and avoiding peak falls at
each stage of the project Kevin Dole
00:13:34
a senior advisor to Power Africa
initiative explains the most basic type of
00:13:40
communication is when you inform the
community of what we're doing Ok We're going
00:13:44
to build this here this road this railway
this power plant so for the 2nd next
00:13:50
level is consult with them so we're going
to build this here what do you guys think
00:13:54
about it the 3rd part is involved so we're
going to build this what do you think
00:13:59
about it what can you contribute towards
us planning this and thinking this through
00:14:04
developed with input from local communities
government agencies private sector
00:14:09
developers financial institutions and
Kenyan and international. Civil society
00:14:14
organizations the guide is tailored to
reflect country specific clothes customs and
00:14:20
institutions that developers in Kenya
must not be gate is Kenya's principal
00:14:26
secretary of the Ministry of Energy and
petroleum he says since 2013 the number of
00:14:32
Kenyans have access to electricity
has grown exponentially.
00:14:40
In the us and. They have been.
00:14:48
In just 5 years we have. Connected.
00:14:55
We will continue to private

00:15:02
In Kenya the Power Africa initiative

. You know they don't local
00:16:20
trade finance company is providing short
term financing for entrepreneurs in Africa
00:16:25
who can't get money elsewhere to cover
the cost of purchasing goods countable
00:16:29
a multinational technology and
00:16:32
a trading company headquartered in San
Francisco California has offices and more
00:16:37
riches kick Oliver Wanda Grand Cayman and
will soon open an office in Nairobi Kenya
00:16:43
Chris Hale is c.e.o.
00:16:44
Of accountable he spoke with me about how
his company is helping entrepreneurs in
00:16:49
Africa make their dreams
come true. Council is
00:16:52
a global trade platform and we offer
00:16:54
a unique type of financing for entrepreneurs
who are importing or we buy goods on
00:16:59
their behalf and help them execute on
international trade deals what are the
00:17:04
qualifications for getting financing
especially if an entrepreneur has been turned
00:17:10
down by
00:17:10
a bank we look at the trade transactions
very differently that we're not really
00:17:15
assessing the credit worthiness of the
actual we're looking at the quality of their
00:17:19
end customer the quality of their supplier
and their leader to execute on the
00:17:24
transaction so we're able to look at the
problem very differently than banks and
00:17:28
assess those qualifications based on how
well the deal will go and how likely we
00:17:32
think it is to execute what
would be an example we do
00:17:36
a lot of work in and so an entrepreneur
wins a contract to build a data center for
00:17:42
a bank as an example and they need to buy
all the components of the datacenter like
00:17:46
you know switches and cable ing and so
forth and the bank wants it to be 1st
00:17:51
quality top tier like Cisco as an example
and so the entrepreneur has difficulty
00:17:56
getting that financed because
00:17:57
a large deal big companies like
Cisco are going to ship to
00:18:01
a small business without getting paid and
the bank won't pay until the project is
00:18:05
complete and so there's quite
00:18:06
a lot of friction that 3 party transaction
but we understand it and can help make
00:18:11
it run smoothly and how are you able to
help finance these types of businesses so
00:18:17
over the course of our lifetimes the company
the answer to that question was very
00:18:22
but as of January last year we secured
00:18:26
a $150000000.00 line of credit from the
lesson here in the United States and so we
00:18:31
use that capital to fund these projects
when you're looking at entrepreneurs in
00:18:37
Africa what are some of their biggest
challenges I think the biggest challenge
00:18:42
these entrepreneurs in Africa
face is anonymity people have
00:18:44
a lot of assumptions about businesses like
in Africa and frankly those assumptions
00:18:49
are often underdeveloped
and the. Reporters have
00:18:52
a. Way to demonstrate
their identity both as
00:18:56
a safe counterparty to work with and as
00:18:58
a good business partner to engage with and
so our platform manages their identity
00:19:03
and assesses their readiness for this
project can you give us an example of
00:19:07
a 6 that story from your experiences in
working with African entrepreneurs sure one
00:19:13
of my favorite recent success
stories is we were contracted with
00:19:17
a small entrepreneur that we worked with
5 different occasions now to procure
00:19:23
almost a $1000000.00 worth
of malarial test kits from
00:19:27
a subsidiary of Abbott that program is
facilitated by the World Health Organization
00:19:32
so one would think that a project of
this magnitude importance would work
00:19:37
a little bit better than it does but
even these really critical development
00:19:41
projects face this problem
and it really gives us
00:19:45
a lot of pride to be able to make those
kinds of projects work better. That was
00:19:49
Chris Hale c.e.o.
00:19:50
Of the global technology and trading company
countable he spoke with me from San
00:19:55
Francisco California.

Iraq more than 4000000 children about one
00:23:45
quarter of all Iraqi children live in
poverty. Most of these children it says are
00:23:51
scarred by years of conflict and deprivation
the government has made great strides
00:23:56
in bringing the fighting to an end in several
areas of the country but Unicef notes
00:24:02
children continue to suffer from ongoing
violence lack of education and basic care
00:24:08
the city of Mosul is
00:24:09
a notable example although Iraqi government

about it. But. The pockets of
Unicef reports poverty and

some have never been inside a classroom a
situation that is likely to rob them of

a meaningful future the children's agency

Senate today thought it for a temporary
spending plans of all the open

a federal government after
00:25:47
a partial 3 day shutdown. The Senate has
approved legislation to keep federal
00:25:51

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell
00:25:56
assured opposition Democratic lawmakers
that he would in the coming weeks allow
00:26:01
a vote on protecting about 800000 young
illegal immigrants from deportation the
00:26:07
Democrats had demanded from assurances that
the chamber would consider the fate of

McConnell assured him if the immigration

the Senate what he mediately consider it

right after that date the legislation to

some of the award winning fighters and
00:30:59
award winning fights in 2017 but
1st let's look ahead to 2018
00:31:06
and the big boys the heavyweights Tyson
Fury the Gypsy King former world
00:31:13
heavyweight champion it looks like he
might be getting back in the ring tell us
00:31:18
about that Nandi we're really excited about
Tyson fear of the gypsy king because no
00:31:23
matter what you say about him he breaks
excitement. In front of the British boxing
00:31:28
but of control in January which
means that one's the name of
00:31:33
a license him it sounds. Very good chance
of coming back in the ring because he
00:31:38
brings people into the arena and
he talks of the fight so he's
00:31:43
a man that we need in the division Tyson
Fury has struggled with substance abuse
00:31:49
issues nom de is
00:31:51
a clean well it depends on what you mean
by is he claimed he would have to go to
00:31:56
more tests and the British boxing but of
control will have to draw the line and say
00:32:02
hey we must check you maybe every month
every week right now and sunny He's like
00:32:08
a $300.00 pound whale you know.
He needs to drop at least
00:32:12
a good 100 pounds to really start thinking
about getting into the ring because the
00:32:17
way he looks now he looks more like
00:32:18
a sumo wrestler you know. He
likes to take bro. Every way
00:32:25
to remember that. Anthony Joshua well he
holds several world title belts nom de
00:32:33
What does he have coming up in 2018
00:32:36
a very very important fight for and 2 New
Jersey shore he said unification fight
00:32:40
against Joseph Parker of New
Zealand Gustaf Buckeyes a w b
00:32:45
o heavyweight champion of the water they've
been trying to break bread and they've
00:32:50
been going back and forth with displayed
Joseph Packer ones 40 percent of the gate
00:32:55
and the paper view numbers but he's not
00:32:58
a draws so they've been trying so they're
very close we expect and I mounted maint
00:33:04
right after the holidays looking
at my print in the u.k.
00:33:09
Unification fight you just have parka
against Antonin Josh Rafferty w b
00:33:14
o title Nandi do you give Joseph
Parker any chance against a.j.
00:33:20
I've been watching him and he's Ok he's not
in the same league with Anthony Joshua
00:33:25
he would stand and fight and when you stand
in front of homeboy he will take you
00:33:29
out decides to run that's
00:33:31
a different thing until you just will have
to cut the ring but I bet you one thing
00:33:35
. Going to be an exciting fight and
somebody will go down Joseph Parker the w b
00:33:40
o heavyweight champion the w.b.c.
00:33:44
Heavyweight champion is Dion Tay wilder
of the United States what does he have
00:33:49
coming up in 2018. Sunny in the month of
February the young will take on Louise
00:33:56
Ortiz from. Remember losers he's got busted
for steroids so this is being cleared
00:34:02
now the fight is going to happen in New
York City but really I don't really puts
00:34:09
Luisa T.'s in that category of
the number one contender of
00:34:13
a good fight it will be one of these easy
blowout fight for the until wild and
00:34:17
after that he was so out the bomb squad you
know and then challenge Anthony Georgia
00:34:22
it's going to be
00:34:22
a no fight Lewis ots will be knocked out
by the un to wild and that will prove not
00:34:27
into boxing fans in America vote. What
about Dion Tay Wilder Anthony Joshua
00:34:34
nom de do you see that maybe late in 2018
I keep telling people and tuna just to I
00:34:40
don't need to be on to wild young to while
I'm going to draw in America and to New
00:34:46
Jersey you had
00:34:47
a big fish to fry I would rise inferi and
even David Haye this I find that will
00:34:53
feel the stadium ties inferi
against Anthony just to
00:34:56
a small market table then you
want to while the game's a.j.
00:35:00
This fight with wild I would have to happen
was say 2019 spring and people think
00:35:06
I'm crazy for saying that because. He's
not there the numbers are not there this
00:35:12
cat in America is not
00:35:14
a pay per view draw he cannot feel arenas
you know and you need 2 to tango you know
00:35:18
and and to me just I don't really need to
come to America to make money he can do
00:35:23
90 Tauzin in the u.k. He can do big paper
view numbers you bring him to the u.s.
00:35:29
17000 arena fight in
00:35:31
a guy he can destroy Now we need to wait
for this fight. Like we say in the fight
00:35:36
game Matty name. Nom de you talk
about big pay per view numbers
00:35:43
one of the biggest fights of 2017 in terms
of pay per view numbers we've been doing
00:35:50
this for 21 years I told you guys all
come straight so you know what coming
00:35:55
straight I was going to take some contact
I could have sat back and just boxed and
00:36:01
counterpunched and made it born I don't
want to do that I feel like a lot of fans
00:36:05
a last hurrah so I went out there they
might be communicating before we went out
00:36:11
there I don't game plan was to go out there
and let him shoot heavy shots from the
00:36:14
beginning taking down the stretch and do
we do best and that's what we did tonight
00:36:19
that's Floyd Mayweather speaking after his
10th round technical knockout victory
00:36:25
over Connor McGregor in Las Vegas
Nevada the final figures are in Tel
00:36:32
r.v.o.
00:36:32
Way boxing fans the details his
$4300000.00 Pay Per View buy in not
00:36:39
America which means the fight pulled in
more than $600000000.00 that he. And you
00:36:45
know who has the record for the biggest
beep of you numbers go back and eighties
00:36:50
fried me with
00:36:51
a Games money 520154 point 6000000 break
it down Nandi How much did each fighter
00:36:58
get from that Meg about don't forget now
fry me when I was just not only to find
00:37:04
out he was also the promoter so he
got his up friends and the back
00:37:11
end fried me what I walked away
with more than $350000000.00.
00:37:18
And a kind of McGregor I'm
00:37:20
a $100000000.00 Now with such money from
that fight nom de Witt Conor McGregor go
00:37:27
back to m.m.a.
00:37:28
Or maybe try his luck again in the boxing
ring we don't even know if he's going to
00:37:33
fight again because he's still
busy counting 100. If you have
00:37:37
a $100000000.00 in that bank who you
want anybody to touch you know.
00:37:44
Nom de another big fight in 2017
Sol Canelo Alvarez from Mexico
00:37:51
he fought to a draw against Get
Noddy go aloft in triple g.
00:37:56
Will there be Canelo triple g 2 in
2018 Sunday to date is almost said
00:38:03
no we're looking at this
happen in May 15th at t.
00:38:06
Mobile arena the question becomes will the
2nd fight sellout like the force fight
00:38:12
you know well remember it is
00:38:15
a very important weekend for Mexican boxing
fans Cinco de Mayo and they come out in
00:38:20
large numbers they are in I would sell out
00:38:23
a lot of fight friends believe kind
of the last the last fight and
00:38:27
a lot of fight fans believe that Judge
stole the fight from triple G.'s So who is
00:38:32
come out and see if the Mexican Aria will
take out triple do you see the Mexican
00:38:38
warrior Canelo making adjustments in the
rematch Sonny has no choice he must
00:38:45
make I just meant he must length
how to cut of the ring he's
00:38:48
a warrior we've seen him fight he must
take it to be put in the body stay in the
00:38:53
body to run your company but destroy the
lazy jab and try to look pretty steady had
00:38:58
a warrior we've seen you fight
take it to 3 Puji he stands
00:39:02
a chance of even stopping Tripodi Like
I've said in the past we were very
00:39:05
disappointed in the last fight I said Mexican
if he comes out on runs like you did
00:39:10
a lot of fight his friend bays would never
forgave him so we must see action come
00:39:14
May 5th with Canelo and triple to nom
de also in 2017 the Australian fighter
00:39:21
Jeff Horne captured the w.b.
00:39:25
Oh well to wait title belt with
00:39:27
a controversial victory over Manny
Pacquiao what's next for Horn in 2018
00:39:34
when you can add that. The robbery of 2017
because Jeff Han did not win that fight
00:39:40
he just admitted the defense of his title
in Australia I pulled big numbers but now
00:39:45
he has amended 3 against Terrence Crawford
Crawford knocked out some don't go in
00:39:50
the blue machine and Jeff Hahn is saying
he needs $4000000.00 before he can step
00:39:56
into the ring with Terrence Crawford do
you see the promoters giving more of that
00:40:00
kind of money Nandi No he's not even
what a $1000000.00 Any comment would get
00:40:05
a look at numbers when we only talk
fights you know turns Crawford is
00:40:09
a great fighter but he's not a pay per
view fight. You can watch him on e.s.p.n.
00:40:14
For free cable China but when you pay
$4050.00 the open $70.00 to see him
00:40:21
fight knowing he's not
00:40:23
a superstar you know we're going to find
it for me down dollars to give Jeff on
00:40:27
busy clearly what he's doing is trying to
cash is trying to say I'm not ready to
00:40:31
fight out I want to fight he's talking about
fighting 20 Mundine from Australia for
00:40:36
2000000 dollars Sonny So basically they
would have to take his belt away from him
00:40:40
and would Terrence Crawford then fight
another boxer for that belt Well w.b.
00:40:46
All would then go into the King and sit in
ness of illiberal fighter and they would
00:40:51
fight for the Vic and award title in the
meantime Jeff Han will try to see if he
00:40:55
can get to in London for $2000000.00 We
believe Jeff Han has got lucky nights truly
00:41:01
out and if he steps into the ring with
Terrence Crawford he would be distraught.
00:41:07
V.o.a.
00:41:07
Sonny young you're listening to the sunny
side of sports on the Voice of America
00:41:12
I'm talking with Nom de Mo way to our
reigning prince of pugilist sticks about
00:41:18
boxing in 2018 we're also looking back
to some of the top fights from 2017
00:41:25
let's move to the African fighters
in 2018 Nandi and begin with
00:41:31
a guy named warrior Richard Komi What does
he have lined up for the new year was
00:41:37
the best move Richard Kogan made was
coming to America aligning himself for
00:41:42
a promoter in Lou de Bella the fights that
Richard Komi lost in America if he had
00:41:48
a promoter behind him we know what we
call in the fight game insurance box
00:41:52
insurance though not have stolen the fight
from him with her but he still has now
00:41:58
said for the finally mean ation the we
know this fight must fight about Easter
00:42:02
according to the i.d.f.
00:42:04
He's going to take on legs and
Luna of Bellflower California with
00:42:08
a final elimination and check
this Luna is not. The Fighter is
00:42:13
a 22 and 0 with 15 big knockouts So this
fight may end up in San Antonio in Mexican
00:42:19
territory home by from
Accra Ghana but I bring is
00:42:22
a game for this elimination fight because
Luna is going to fight but the we know
00:42:27
this fight must fight the champion robot
is Tim another guy named warrior Isaac dog
00:42:33
Bo the sunny side
00:42:35
a sports prospect of the year for 2016
it looks like he could be maybe crowned
00:42:42
world champion nom de tell us about
that very important fight happening in
00:42:47
a crowd Ghana January 6th they call
it but all of the Gold Coast's.
00:42:55
Isaac Ro you know it's time to
go we'll take on say race for
00:42:59
a man he go for the vacant
interrogate wall the title of w
00:43:05
b or super Buttonwood title
and this will happen at
00:43:09
a book I read. In Ghana if you're in
00:43:13
a crowd gonna place to be January 6th I bet
you want to be in that area now because
00:43:18
going to be bombs away. And I'll be there
must be too dog Bo's advantage to be
00:43:24
fighting in front of friendly fans there
in Accra but don't count on the Mexicans
00:43:29
because the Mexican War is they will go
into your bedroom and take you out. In
00:43:35
front of your family your wife and brothers
and. This god they don't joke. That's
00:43:41
what I'm telling fight fans in general are
00:43:43
a 6th place to be will come out Gonna
but study Remember this past Yeah we
00:43:50
saw
00:43:50
a fight for the 1st time from Africa on
Facebook. Against become bank whom I
00:43:57
hope January 6th the fight would Dubbo and
says I Where as would be streamed live
00:44:03
for us on Facebook so we can see around the
globe big things happen in boxing and I
00:44:08
believe the promoters from Ghana would do
the same thing the promoters. With some
00:44:13
advice if I did the Facebook still with
African fighters Nandi What about the
00:44:17
Ugandan lion Sharif. Son had to lie on his
back you know he's healed now and then
00:44:24
the big money behind him with provide me
with the money you don't go wrong Sunny
00:44:29
you have your own Charan's you
have the money to back you up for
00:44:32
a title fight and no
judge or referee still
00:44:35
a fight from you because behind you
so. Sheriff Bulgaria will strike put
00:44:42
a lie to a title of the
wallet and I think it's
00:44:45
a big year for him he's healed now
he's back he's an exciting find I said
00:44:49
Television fighter he brings action he
brings power he brings knockout look for
00:44:53
28000 for home buy from Kampala to strike
Nandi It's time now for the sunny side of
00:44:59
sports boxing awards for 27 team but
1st some music from the Nigerian
00:45:06
Fela Kuti.
00:46:08
Let's begin with the sunny side of boards
knocking. Out of the year Sonny if you
00:46:14
remember last knockout of year was by an
African Julio's the Blue much Indian don't
00:46:20
go and he did it in 40 seconds but 2017 we
have Zola tape there of South Africa he
00:46:26
knocked out so. Going yeah off South
Africa and 11 seconds on believable
00:46:33
fast punch knockout brutal right hook Sonny
the fastest knockout ever you know in
00:46:40
a while title fight coming from Africa Nandi
what's next for Zola. So his allotted
00:46:46
to has
00:46:47
a big fight against all mine obviates
of February 10th. In London home by
00:46:54
from South Africa is making big noise
in boxing and I believe we will see him
00:46:58
making some good money zone I take that
from South Africa knockout of the year
00:47:04
let's move now nom de to the sunny side of
sports fight of the year for 2017 Sunny
00:47:11
we have
00:47:11
a drone here which is better is.
Go back to that fired from to come
00:47:18
out in Guyana That's my kind of reminds
me when I'm going to lies very guys in
00:47:23
a big I rate ice pack with 5 fans and
everybody's running with each bunch and the
00:47:27
fire lived up to expectation before this
fight between him. And become bankrupt it
00:47:32
was a lot of talk
00:47:33
a lot of hype and the whole city was everybody
was into it and if I had to back and
00:47:38
buy c.s.i. Me and knock down the book
on bankroll in the 7th round and it was
00:47:43
a great fight you had
00:47:44
a fight of the how can we forget 120 Joshua
against Klitschko side my god son I was
00:47:50
shaking in my boots with what went down
both fire both fighters went down both got
00:47:56
back up so I mean again I mean it was back
in 90000 people mad as if to have you
00:48:03
would buy told don't do tone epic. Going
home by get up from the front with I
00:48:10
was there was a heavyweight fight. You
know see this fight kind of fights in
00:48:14
a long time if I live up to spec Titian
megaprojects the Klitschko he came and he
00:48:21
fought any student because showed
the wall that he's not done was
00:48:24
a great fight Sonny Nandi earlier we
mentioned Isaac dog Bo the sunny side of
00:48:29
sports prospect of the year for 2016
who is the prospect of the year for
00:48:35
2017 so you have
00:48:37
a very good ones really and I'm really
excited about this cat you know I've been
00:48:42
watching him from the Olympics he's from
Nigeria and if it I jabbed out his 66 any
00:48:48
Solide he can punch 3 and 03 knockouts
what I like about his cat right
00:48:55
now and that he has a very good team
good promoter good manager Ronnie shield
00:49:01
a wall class trainer and
not only that he has
00:49:03
a rich head chef and he's one of the top
promoters in America and Shelly Finkel
00:49:08
chilling Finkle used to work with Iron
Mike Tyson So what we have here is
00:49:15
a young heavyweight from Nigeria been
moved into right and his fights been on
00:49:20
television so when we come back again
at the end of 2018 when we look at
00:49:28
what's going to happen to f a
00:49:29
a job I remember that name heavyweight with
power heavyweight that can punch don't
00:49:35
forget what we call. Finally
Nandi the sunny side of
00:49:42
sports fighter of the year for 2017
hands down sonny and Tony just
00:49:49
from the u.k. And u.s. Sonny a.j. A.j.
00:49:53
Has brought a lot of
excitement to the Bucs
00:49:57
a class act Sania you can hear him talk
even if you look at him the way he carries
00:50:02
himself outside arena we don't have anybody
like that and not only that he still
00:50:07
has his roots in the model that
you know 2018 is going to be
00:50:11
a huge year. For him people said the flask
would cost he did not notice he did not
00:50:18
do that but don't forget that that fight
was the last minute fight he had to make
00:50:22
adjustments without fight 2018 full
heat with Joseph aka Tyson few
00:50:29
retraining himself. And then one must fight
because he said it's only $23.00 fights
00:50:34
and. Then the on to why I don't know d.
00:50:37
And don't want to get into what I would
have to see to improve himself in America
00:50:41
before we can demand that fight for the
man and the boxing today he's on to
00:50:48
Joshua.
00:50:58
Hale. Cut. The legs.
00:51:06
Cut. To. Go and.
00:51:12
Cut. Cut cut cut cut
00:51:20
cut cut cut cut cut cut
00:51:27
cut cut cut. Cut cut cut cut
00:51:34
cut. Cut.
00:51:54
To.
00:52:01
Length.
00:52:08
Me or that's the late Nigerian
you. Zisha and Fela Kuti with this
00:52:14
1975 song water no get enemy and
thanks to Nandi Hollywood Mo way
00:52:21
to our reigning prince of pugilist picks
for his hard hitting analysis and
00:52:27
commentary during this special New Year's
Day edition of the sunny side of sports
00:52:34
as Nandi mentioned one of the 1st big
fights of 2018 takes place on Saturday
00:52:40
January 6th at the bluegum boxing arena in
00:52:44
a croc gonna local favorite Isaac royal
storm dog Bo of Ghana will go against
00:52:50
Mexico's Ses are Juarez for the interim
world boxing organization super
00:52:56
bantamweight title The unbeaten dog Bo is
bidding for his 18th consecutive victory
00:53:04
he says Juarez will be a very
tough opponent his guys know
00:53:08
a joke you know you have to be have to be
extra careful but look I keep saying that
00:53:14
you know if they got to come to hard and
if all. The sales of Juarez Yes they give
00:53:21
enough credit he's looking into what you
mean you know. We know all when we are
00:53:27
made of laws you call on the name of the
law it everything everything becomes
00:53:32
silence so we are no worries Oh yes he
does keep focus winnowing he's physically
00:53:37
strong he's the tenant I mean the guy is
as tough as they come he's strong enough
00:53:43
the Conseco he's in
00:53:44
a hospice and it's one thing as I understand
that I have something that he doesn't
00:53:49
have I have the Almighty Living God
man I say so every time I gain
00:53:54
a ring you know I'm sure
I'm coming over Tell us
00:53:58
a confident good day and Boxer Isaac dog

Next an editorial reflecting the views
of the United States government in
00:54:44
announcing the national security
strategy for the United States under his
00:54:47
administration President Donald Trump
emphasized renewed American leadership and
00:54:52
renewed American strength that leadership
and strength will now be based on what he
00:54:57
calls principled realism we face rogue
regimes that threaten the United States and
00:55:02
our allies we face terrorist organizations
transnational criminal networks and
00:55:08
others who spread violence and evil around
that we also face rival powers Russia
00:55:14
and China that seek to challenge American
influence values and wealth we will
00:55:20
attempt to build a great partnership
with those and other countries but in
00:55:26
a manner that always protects our national
interest to succeed said President Trump
00:55:32
the United States must integrate every
dimension of our national strength and he
00:55:36
must compete with every instrument of our
national power the new strategy advances
00:55:41
for vital national interests the 1st is
the protection of the American people
00:55:46
homeland and way of life that means
securing America's border including by
00:55:50
constructing
00:55:51
a wall on the southern border and ending
chain migration in addition our strategy
00:55:56
calls for us to confront discredit and
defeat radical Islamic terrorism and
00:56:02
ideology and to prevent it from spreading
into the United States and we will
00:56:07
develop new ways to counter those who use
new domains such as cyber and social
00:56:13
media to attack our nation or threaten
our society the 2nd vital national
00:56:20
interest is promoting American prosperity
economic vitality growth and prosperity
00:56:25
are absolutely necessary for American power
and influence abroad President Trump
00:56:30
said that is why he is removing regulations
that stifle business championing tax
00:56:35
cuts promote. Being free and fair trade
policy and unleashing American energy the
00:56:40
3rd pillar of the strategy is preserving
peace through strength including by
00:56:45
rebuilding and modernizing America's
military we recognize Mr Trump said that
00:56:50
weakness is the surest path to conflict
and unrivaled power is the most certain
00:56:55
means of defense finally the United States
will seek to advance American influence
00:57:00
in the world by forging strong alliances
based on cooperation and reciprocity and
00:57:06
while not imposing America's way of life
on anyone by championing American values
00:57:11
without apology with every decision and
every action said President Trump the
00:57:16
United States is rebuilding our nation our
confidence and our standing in the world
00:57:21
. But it was an editorial reflecting the
views of the United States government.
